TAP ME has partnered with Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and is sponsoring the IST Formula Student Project once again, with materials and workshop services.
The sponsorship protocol was signed earlier this year between TAP and the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of IST – to support the construction of FST Lisbon team’ FST 08e Prototype.
Formula Student is an international engineering competition exclusively for students. It started in the United States of America, and happens today around the world, bringing together more than 500 teams – one of them FST Lisbon –, who share the goal of planning, designing and building a racing car prototype.

Filipe Morais de Almeida, Director of Innovation and Development at TAP ME, felt proud of this partnership after a visit to the IST, by invitation from the team, to see the assembly of the car: "I was very surprised by the quality of the engineering involved in the project, as well as the dynamics and enthusiasm of the whole team. It is very important that ME is linked to the Universities and supports this type of initiatives, to promote the contact between the students and the Company. Universities are the source of Engineering”, he said.

TAP ME's support includes, for example, the supply of materials commonly used in aeronautics – such as pre-impregnated anti-fire carbon fiber, crude aluminum, basalt fiber, and others – and specialized services, such as laser cuts, roller assembly, welds, paints, and others.
TAP manages, this way, to promote its brand with international initiatives such as Formula Student, while contributing actively to the Academy development, technology and innovation in Portugal.
