The new TAP internal campaign dedicated to the work accidents prevention already started. This initiative, titled as “Acidente Zero”, has the goal to create awareness for the prevention of accidents at work, in all areas of the Company, and for the personal impacts that these accidents could mean in the teams and, consequently, in the Company.
The companies have the responsibility to make everything they can to reduce the accidents at work to the minimal and TAP isn’t different. It’s the obligation of any company to provide the information and the tools needed so that the Employees can protect themselves. It is, however, essential that these last ones represent their part in this mission, since it is up to each of us to apply the best practices in security at work. This is the motto to the new campaign: the “Acidente Zero” is in our hands.
Vera Batista, from Employer Branding, considers this campaign in the first place “a reinforce on prevention and an investment on the safety culture” and marks that it is transversal: “our role is to remind that there are certain procedures and behaviors that, when respected, highly contribute to the safety culture and for the individual and organizational success”.
This is an initiative transversal to all Company and it won’t focus only in areas that are usually associated to accidents at work. All Employees can, at any moment on the exercise of their functions, be a victim of an accident that, in many cases, can be prevented. We’re talking, yes, of maintenance technicians, but also crew, agents of Customer Service and those who work in the airport or in the office. In this sense, being a work of everyone, it must have the participation of everyone as well.
In the Maintenance and Engineering, possibly this is the easiest to associate to accidents at work, for its nature. Carlos Colaço – from Safety and Health at ME – reinforces the importance of training and awareness for the creation of a culture that, naturally, minimize these occurrences, for the wealth of the Employees and the Company. “We intend to instill the nonoccurrence of accidents at work, in the first place because of the physical well-being of the person themselves, for their colleagues that would be overcharged with extra work because of the absence of the colleague that suffer the accident and for the company that, temporarily, loses one of its actives, affecting in that way the organization, its work and, consequently, its competitiveness”.
In the words of Marília Santos of Flight Operations’ Direction, “this Division has the mission to guarantee the highest levels of Safety, according to the safety norms, regulations and the best practices in our industry. In this way, we’re looking forward to certificate the safety of every crew member, through training and awareness”.
The awareness for prevention of accidents at work is, in this way, the biggest priority for the reduction of its occurrences, as stated by Anabela Jorge, CEO of UCS: “The prevention of work accidents is an important matter in the culture of the company and in the work of the several teams, in the smallest gestures, in the biggest or smallest tasks, critical or not. Protecting the health of the employees is a mission of everyone”.
Besides the first action – creating direct awareness for the problem – there will be short-team initiatives of training aimed to leaderships, that will be responsible for transmitting to its teams the best practices of prevention. In medium term, the campaign will be regularly reinforced and its results will be monitored, so that it’s possible to evaluate its success.
