TAP received, between 21st and 23rd of November, the first IATA’s event about global fraud prevention. The “IATA Global Fraud Prevention Event” brought together for three days, in Lisbon, specialists in fraud prevention on several angles of the aviation industry, coming from all the regions of the globe.
João Faria’s intervention: “TAP Air Portugal – Past, Present and Future”
The main principle of this meeting is that the ability to communicate and to share experiences and knowledge is essential for a good fraud prevention, to better evaluate the current circumstances and to determine the better way to act. In the words of Jean-Charles Odelé-Gruau, Director of Financial & Distribution Services and Industry Payment Services at IATA, “we should deal with fraud as a community”.
The event promoted by IATA – International Air Transport Association -, that counted on TAP Air Portugal as a host, had the goal to bring together airline companies, travel agencies, payment enterprises – such as VISA and Mastercard -, strategic partners, service providers of IATA and police and legal authorities specialized in fraud prevention in several countries and supranational – such as Europol e Interpol.
Elton D’Souza’s intervention: “New Horizons, New Challenges”
Currently TAP is in a vanguard position in fraud combat. João Frias, responsible for this area – and for the creation of the department in 2007 – presented to the participants the evolution of the Company’s numbers in this field, that are currently around 0,2%, a residual value and the best proof of success of the work made in the last 10 years. On its turn, Elton D’Souza, Vice-President of Network and Planning, considers the fraud prevention as essential to facilitate everyone’s work in the Company and to guarantee that it is “a safe place to sell”.
