On 30 August, TAP celebrated the end of summer in New York with a genuine “Portuguese Summer Festa”. To the sound of Portuguese music, the party was a celebration of a period of great importance for the airline in this market. Also there was George Mendes, a Michelin-star chef of Portuguese descent.
The national airline transformed the well-known “Chefs Club Counter” in Manhattan into a typical Portuguese cervejaria, and invited 200 people to discover the best there is to offer on the other side of the Atlantic. George Mendes, who is responsible for the success of Manhattan restaurants Aldea, which has a Michelin star, and Lupulo, created a menu of Portuguese cuisine offering a variety of flavours, ranging from cod croquettes to tuna ceviche and traditional charcoal roasted octopus. Also available at the cervejaria were wines from several Portuguese wine-growing regions that were served with the six courses on the night.
TAP was responsible for confecting the “dessert” by raffling two trips to Portugal. The raffle winners will take part in a unique gastronomic tour in the company of George Mendes.
This initiative allows TAP to both enhance its planned expansion in North America and its position as Portuguese ambassador to the world.
