With an experience of over 20 years in the international cargo transportation industry, Miguel de Paiva Gomes arrived to TAP in June as Global Chief Cargo Officer, and Global Director of Cargo and Mail.
He leaves behind a past connected to logistics and international shipping in companies of national and international renown, such as Transinsular, where he was CEO until the end of last year, or in world group leaders like Maersk and Kuehne+Nagel, where he held management positions in different countries.
"What moves me is the different challenge of dealing with the airline industry and operation. I want to focus on the improvement and efficiency of the organization and the product, on strategic alignment and on communication. In fact, I want to give a structure to TAP Cargo, using my international experience", Miguel de Paiva Gomes stated.
In the last year, TAP Cargo transported 78.500 tonnes, an increase of 25% compared to 2016, and this year the results already confirm the growth forecast. "In the first half of 2018 alone, TAP Cargo registered a growth of 16% in revenue, compared to the same period of 2017, which indicates a continued growth for this year", the new responsible predicts.
The goals are now to expand the business, by making the service faster and with less costs, optimizing more and more the space of the holds in addition to the trucks transport. The priority is also the Brazilian market, in synergy with Azul, the expansion of the Company in the north American market, e-commerce, a digital agenda, and the internal and external communication of this business area of TAP’s.
TAP Cargo is thus following the Company's strategy in the path to modernization and better service to its Customers, continuing to consolidate the cargo and mail business as one of the most important for TAP.
