Considered one of the biggest icons of Portuguese Television and now also from around the world. On World Television Day, the Company paid tribute to Raul Solnado, baptizing the Airbus A321neo, registered with CS-TJM, under his name, in an event open to the actor's family and friends, to the media and to all the TAP group collaborators.
It was at Hangar 6 Campus’ that on the afternoon of November 21st, dozens of people gathered to live this recognition closely. Many of those close to him remembered with longing, emotion and laughter some of the work of the humorist, namely the advertising spots he made for TAP in the 70's and 80's, which were broadcasted during the event.
Joana Solnado, who followed her grandfather's footsteps and is an actress, recalled that Raul Solnado loved to travel, loved airplanes and would certainly be radiant with this tribute. Mikkel Solnado, son of the actor and also present at the ceremony, even toyed with the idea that if his father were present there would surely make a joke about his recognition, recalling the happy spirit with which Raul Solnado infected everything and everyone he passed.
To Miguel Frasquilho, Chairman of TAP Group, “It’s a pride and honor for our Company, and also for Portugal, that the skies of the world will be crossed by Raul Solnado as he has always been, at the service of the Portuguese and the country, and now with TAP".
Raul Solnado was born in Lisbon on October 19th, 1929 and made his stage debut at 18. Over 60 years of career, he has become one of the most popular figures in theater, radio and television, not only in Portugal, but also in Brazil. "Zip-Zip", broadcasted in 1969, and "The Visit of Cornelia", 1977, were some of his blockbuster hits.
Flights aboard the "Raul Solnado" plane will now be even happier, as he himself has often suggested: "Please be happy!".
